I've been making music for a while now. I know a little bit about a lot of things. 

I have a basic/minimal understanding of musical theory, song structure, sound design, mixing and mastering. I've learned a bunch of obscure tricks to get where I am now. Slowly over time I've come up with a basic set of rules I follow on some occasions, but 90% of what I make is based on: "If it sounds good it is good".

It's rare I start a project knowing what I want it to be. Sometimes I have an idea for a melody. Sometimes I have an idea for a remix. Usually though, I try to do something I haven't done before. (This one gets out of hand on occasion.) 

A number of people have asked me how I make a track, and I never know how to respond. There's not really a process to follow; no proper start to finish instructions. My music just kinda happens. Sometimes I start with a melody, other times a baslsine, other times I start with drums.

Starting is the easy part. Getting from rough patterns to a finished track is quite labour intensive for me. Looping a bassline and jamming over it is pretty easy, but it doesn't make for an interesting track usually. I understand the idea of song progression, but I have no idea how to accomplish it myself. (Previous successes can be attributed to luck.) The only thing that seems to work is trial and error.

Overall, I enjoy making music, even though I don't really know what I'm doing. It's all just for fun. If anyone ever wants a MIDI, stems, or even my FL project files, I'll happily share.
